M. D. Pathology or Doctor of Medicine in Pathology is a two-year postgraduate course that involves the study and diagnosis of diseases present in the human body through close study and examination of tissues, organs, body fluids, and the autopsy of the entire body. Cellular adaptation to injury, inflammation and necrosis wound healing, neoplasia, etc are the areas of study covered under this course. They are educated about the effects, development, and causes of the spread of diseases within the human body and also how to perform procedures required for laboratory testing. Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Neuroscience, and Medical Genetics are the subjects covered under this two-year program.
Students who have acquired a minimum of 55% marks in their M.B.B.S degree are eligible to apply for this course. However, they need to appear for a post-graduation entrance examination conducted by reputed universities at the time of admission. This course covers fields like Histopathology, Hematology, Cytopathology, and Immunopathology and trains students on how to diagnose pathological conditions in these areas. In order to determine accurate results of the investigation, students should be able to interpret the representative materials obtained from the patients correctly and use their logic and analysis by instigating critical thinking in order to judge and conclude the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches.
