Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences was established in 2005! It is accredited by NAAC with CGPA of 3.62 on a 4 point scale at ‘A’ grade. A solid background in basic sciences and a thorough understanding of the principles of visual science is the foundation of Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Optometry and Visual Sciences.

Optometry is a health care profession which involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities as well as the diagnosis and management of eye disease. Traditionally, the field of optometry began with the primary focus of correcting refractive error through the use of spectacles. Modern day optometry, however, has evolved through time so that the educational curriculum additionally includes intensive medical training in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease in countries where the profession is established and regulated.

The practice of Optometric Sciences is evolving as research produces new information and better ways of providing Optometric care. Thus a primary approach of the Institute is to foster the desire in the students to not only seek but critically analyze new information and to use it more effectively to serve patients.

Programs Offered

The clinical program of the Institute covers general eye and vision care and Optometric specialties. It provides students the opportunity to work with patients in primary vision care and a variety of specialty services. The concluding part of the course also includes in-house specialty clinics and external experiences in the neighboring region as well as other parts of the country. Clinical work is done under the close supervision of our faculty, experiences licensed optometrists, eye care specialist hospitals.

State-of-the-art Infrastructure

The Institute is well equipped with classrooms, library and laboratory with latest instruments for imparting Optometric skills. The strength of the Institution lies in the highly qualified and experienced faculty. Around 60% of the alumni are clinical practitioners while 40% are in academia and research.

Services on Offer

The in-house clinical services that are on offer are primary vision care, contact lens, vision rehabilitation, binocular vision, treatment and management of ocular diseases, pediatric vision care and ophthalmic prescription services and dispensing contact lens. Students gain experience in all aspects of Optometric practice and industry by working and learning in these clinics.
