Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences, Paonta Sahib was started in the year 2003 under the auspices of Dr. Puran Chand Medical Charitable Trust for BDS course with intake capacity of 100 seats with the approval of Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, Dental Council of India and Govt. of India. In the year 2008 college was recognized by Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare vide its letter No. V-12017/6/2001-DE dated 26.06.2008. This Institute is affiliated with Govt. Atal Medical & Research University Himachal Pradesh. At present, Institute is also running postgraduate courses (MDS) in 7 different specialities with intake capacity of 29 seats. Institute is also running Diploma courses in Dental Mechanic (DM) and Dental Hygienist (DH) with intake capacity of 10 seats in each course.

It is with great pride that our more than 1500+ BDS and 200+ MDS have been successful in their profession. They all are now well settled in their life, a few of our former students have joined Army, State Services and also running their own clinics successfully. Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) (intake capacity: 100 seats) degree is awarded at the successful completion of four years of study and one year of internship to the students.

The course comprises didactic lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, seminars, clinical work and conferences.

The aim and objective of the curriculum is to produce a dentist who is socially acceptable and is able to work safely and effectively on patients in diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and oral disease.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)- He/She has duly qualified following Examinations:

• 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with minimum 50% (40% for SC/ST/OBC).
• Must be qualified in NEET UG 2022 examination.
• Minimum Age 17 years at the time of admission or complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

Master in Dental Surgery (MDS)

• Possess BDS degree from a college and university recognised by the Dental Council of India, New Delhi. Internship should be completed before conducting of 1st round of counselling.
• Must be qualified in NEET –MDS 2022 examination
• Candidate should be registered with either the Dental council of India or any of the State Dental Council in India.

Dental Hygienist Course

• 10+2 /Higher Secondary/12th from University/Board established by Law in India with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

Dental Mechanic Course

• 10+2 /Higher Secondary/12th from University/Board established by Law in India with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

Extra Curricular Activities

Students are involved in extracurricular activities such as participation in sports, dramatics and excursions as well as participation in conferences/seminars at different places of learning.
