NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN (NID), is a Design school in Ahmadabad was established in 1961. National Institute of Design, India’s premier and first design institute has been declared Institution of National Importance by the Act of Parliament, by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act. The institute functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, government of India. NID's graduates have made a mark in key sectors of commerce, industry and social development by taking role of catalysts and through thought leadership.

- Mission of the school is “To provide design intervention for craft, handloom, rural technology, small, medium and large scale enterprises, and outreach programmes for capability and institution building and sustainable livelihood, employment opportunities and economic growth”
- NID has taken five decades of pioneering hard work by the academic community at the institute to develop a system of education which lays more emphasis on learning than on mere instruction
