National Institute Of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) , an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act was established as a Regional Engineering College (REC), it was upgraded to the status of an NIT from a Regional Engineering College(REC). NIT Silchar is a Deemed University under the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The college offers Undergraduate and Post graduate courses in Engineering.

The NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SILCHAR is situated in Assam. It is located on the slopes and the best way to reach the university would be through the use of taxi services. There are several buses plying to and from the university as well.
