M. D. Community Medicine or Doctor of Medicine in Community Medicine is a three-year post-graduate course that educates students about the health and disease of a specified community or population. It aims at the identification and evaluation of means to meet the health services of a community at large. Students are trained to critically manage existing health programs at the local, state, and national levels, come up with alternative measures to achieve desired goals in health care, carry out researches of health systems and other related operations for its successful fulfillment.
One who wishes to opt for this course should have acquired 55% marks in his M.B.B.S. examinations and should be prepared to sit for a medical entrance examination at the time of admission to the reputed colleges offering this course. This course prepares candidates towards becoming good managers, solution-seekers, planners, philosophers, and teachers in the prevention of primitive and rehabilitative health of families, individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole. Moreover, those having good communication and interpersonal skills, a liberal mind and good nature are well suited for this program.

Ans: Community Medicine is the specialty that deals with the health and disease of a population or of a specified community. The goal is to identify health problems and needs, to identify the means by which these needs may be met, and to evaluate the extent to which health services do so. The Course helps to enable a candidate to study critically and manage existing health programs of all levels (local& state, national) and suggest alternatives for achieving desired goals and Conduct and guide research in various disciplines of health sciences, health management, health systems research, and operational research.
